Artist Biography
Patricia Roncone is a Richmond Hill, Ontario-based visual artist whose contemporary watercolour paintings masterfully combine realism, intricate symbolism, and profound storytelling. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from York University and a Bachelor of Education in Visual Arts from the University of Western Ontario. Drawing inspiration from nature and personal experience, her work serves as an evocative exploration of resilience, inner peace, and self-discovery. Rather than focusing on external narratives, Roncone’s pieces offer an intimate window into universally relatable emotional landscapes.
Central to her creative practice is a highly meticulous and deliberate handling of her medium. Moving beyond traditional fluid or loose watercolour techniques, Roncone builds her subjects through the careful application of numerous layers of transparent pigment. This intense glazing process achieves an incredibly rich, dense, and near-opaque depth that mirrors the complexity of her themes. By meticulously layering colour, she creates a powerful visual contrast between the delicate vulnerability of the human form and the heavy, unyielding textures of natural elements, like detailed botanical subjects and structured stones. This intricate technique underscores her focus on how we endure, confront, and ultimately dismantle both self-inflicted and external barriers.
As an active voice in the contemporary art community, Roncone engages with audiences both locally and globally. Her work has been exhibited internationally, including the Happy Maru Gallery in Seoul, South Korea, and the 30th International Fine Art Exchange in Florida. Roncone has generously donated her works to the annual Twitter Art Exhibit (now known as the Postcard Art Exhibit) from 2019 through 2026. Locally, her history includes an Artist-in-Residence program and her solo exhibition, Voiceless, at the historic Mill Pond Gallery. Committed to mentorship, Roncone has led engaging workshops for the Markham Group of Artists and has navigated for Mastrius, a global artist community. More recently, Roncone also shared the deeper narratives behind her practice on the Connecting the Community podcast, where she frequently discusses the themes of human resilience that define her work. Roncone continues to develop her artistic voice by transforming personal experiences into symbolic narratives.
